Harvey D. Cohen, M.D.


Dr. Cohen was born in Brooklyn, New York.  He obtained his Bachelor of Science at Brooklyn College followed by his M.D. Degree from the Nobel Prize winning Free University of Brussels in Brussels Belgium.


Dr. Cohen has maintained a private practice in Rancho Cucamonga since 1979 and consistently acquires continuing education far beyond what is required in order to practice medicine of the highest standards possible.  Although English is his primary language, he speaks French, Flemish and some Spanish.


Dr. Cohen is Board Certified in Internal Medicine as well as Geriatric Medicine.  He is also an Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine, Division of Geriatric Medicine, at the USC Keck School of Medicine in Los Angeles.  He is a member and has served on numerous committees of the American Thyroid Association, is a member of the American Geriatric Society and the American Association of Clinical Endocrinology.


Although he has a keen interest in Endocrine disorders such as Diabetes and Thyroid Disease, he is known to be an expert diagnostician and provides primary care to people age 18 throughout the lifespan.  Dr. Cohen values his relationship with each and every patient and their families. His commitment to patients is evident in the way he makes certain that the diagnosis and treatment plan are understood and in the way he collaborates on options with patients making sure they are involved in decision making.


Dr. Cohen’s commitment to our community is evident in the vast amount of volunteer work he has provided over the years.  He is actively involved with the Rancho Cucamonga Community Foundation and does as much as he can to support the Lewis Family Playhouse .


Dr. Cohen has been providing free community lectures at the Senior Centers in Rancho Cucamonga, Upland, and Claremont.  He also provides community lectures at San Antonio Community Hospital.


Dr. Cohen has received numerous Honors and Awards.  He received a Humanitarian Award in 2010 from the County of San Bernardino and the Inland Hospice Association.  He also received an Award for 13 years of volunteer service from the County of San Bernardino Department of Aging and Adult Service in 2009.  Most recently, he was given the “Patients Choice Award” from Vitals on the Internet.


Dr. Cohen has done a column titled “Focus on Five” in the Sun and Inland Valley Daily Bulletin addressing common health issues. He has also appeared on KTIE 590 AM with Upland Rehabilitation addressing various health topics on Upland Rehab’s show, “Seniors Matter”. This is in addition to his numerous professional publications.


Dr. Cohen is the founder and Medical Director of the Senior Evaluation Program at Casa Colina Hospital.  In addition to being on staff since 1979 at San Antonio Community Hospital, he makes rounds at Casa Colina Hospital, Rancho Specialty Kindred Hospital, and numerous skilled care facilities.


Dr. Cohen also provides pre and post-operative care for patients seeking lap band or bariatric surgery for treatment of obesity.  He is available at our Lap band Clinic with Dr. Davtyan one Saturday a month.


Dr. Cohen takes pride in caring for his patients for life – in the office, during hospitalization, in intensive care, and at skilled care facilities. When other medical specialists, such as surgeons or obstetricians, are involved, he coordinates his patient’s care and manages difficult medical problems associated with that care.  He works well and has good relationships with specialists within our local community as well as Los Angeles and other cities.


Dr Cohen and his wife, Karen, a marriage and family therapist, have enjoyed working together since 1988 and share a passion for patient centered care and building the Cohen Medical Center into a center of excellence with warm, friendly, compassionate service with an outstanding dedicated staff to carry out the mission.
